  • Dress Code

Grace Christian Academy wishes to develop within its students a feeling of confidence that is assured by proper hygiene and grooming and appropriate dress. If we look to the Scriptures for a dress guideline that would be appropriate we find that the underlying theme is one of cleanliness and modesty. Student dress and grooming should be God-pleasing and provide no distractions to the educational atmosphere of the school. The following guidelines for appropriate school dress have been agreed upon and set forth by the administration and the school board and should be followed at all times, no exceptions:

    • School uniform tops must be purchased through Norris Merchandise in Shelby, NC.
    • The website for more info is http://www.norrismerchandise.com/ Pants do not have to be purchased from Norris Merchandise however they offer many suitable options for pants.
    • Students must wear approved school uniform.

    Requirements for Boys:

    • Students must wear a navy blue, orange, white or light grey collared polo shirt which must bear the GCA logo.
    • Students have the option of wearing:
    • Denim jeans or shorts – blue or tan Khaki pants or shorts
    • Shorts must come to the knees. Failure to comply with standard set forth in this section may result in the loss of this uniform option.
    • No cargo pants/shorts and no skinny jeans are allowed.
    • Shirts may be worn either in or out. Stomach and back must be covered at all times.

    Requirements for Girls:

    • Students have the option of wearing:
    • Denim jeans, shorts, capris or skirts – blue or tan

    • No cargo jeans/pants, skinny jeans or leggings are allowed.
    • Shirts may be worn in or out. Stomach and back must be covered at all times.

    • School uniform is to appear neat, clean, in good repair, properly sized and not ill fitting. Frayed, dirty or ripped uniforms are not acceptable. Clothing should not be overly close fitting or too loose. Jeans or pants that are too tight are not appropriate nor are saggy jeans or pants.
    • Shoes should fit snugly enough to permit normal school activities. Tennis shoes must be worn for Physical Education. Only non-marking gym shoes should be worn during play on the gym floor. Girls may not wear shoes with heels higher than 2 inches.
    • Hats or sunglasses are not permitted inside school buildings or on campus during school hours.
    • No piercing on boys will be allowed and girls may only have pierced ears (only 2 sets). No other piercings are permitted, no exceptions.
    • No tattoos (temporary or permanent) are permitted.
    • Hair must be neatly trimmed and styled. No cuts with designs or Mohawks. For boys, hair must be above the eyebrows and not covering the eyes and should be above the ear lobes. Any hairstyle that causes undue attention to the person is not acceptable at school. This includes extreme coloration (all hair coloration must be a natural hair color) or eclectic styles.

Students are expected to adhere to these same guidelines at all home and away activities that Grace Christian may host or be involved in. As students of Grace Christian Academy, they are ambassadors of their school and should reflect the mission of Grace Christian Academy at all times.

Should a student violate any of these prohibitions, the parent of that student will be notified immediately. The school will provide the student an oversized uniform shirt to be worn the remainder of the day. If the student should have additional dress code violations after their first, further punishments will be administered, including, but not limited to, suspension. The administrator makes all final decisions on appropriate attire.
